[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Hyewon] Recently, the food industry has been actively launching patient-specific food products. This trend is influenced by increased interest in health and the growing elderly population.
According to the industry on the 16th, ‘LSP People’ introduced a patient beverage product called ‘Dr. Helipa’ that aids digestion and absorption.
Dr. Helipa is a product developed for patients suffering from indigestion. It contains clove extract with beta-caryophyllene, a functional substance that can eliminate Helicobacter pylori bacteria, which can cause heartburn, indigestion, gastritis, gastric ulcers, and even stomach cancer.
Beta-caryophyllene is a patented ingredient (Patent No. 10-2054800) that completed human application tests with the Gastroenterology Department team at Bundang Seoul National University Hospital through a support project by the Korea Food Industry Cluster Promotion Agency. Additionally, it contains hydrolyzed whey protein to aid digestion and absorption, MCT oil to help provide effective calories, and vitamin D to assist calcium absorption, allowing for convenient and balanced nutrition intake without burden.
‘Daesang Life Science’ is offering the patient food brand 'New Care.'
Its flagship products include the high-protein balanced nutritional meal ‘New Care Active Golden Balance,’ designed to prevent muscle loss in patients or the elderly, and the balanced nutritional meal for diabetic patients ‘New Care Dang Plan Pro,’ expanding its patient food lineup.
The recently launched ‘New Care Dang Plan Pro’ consists of 60% monounsaturated fatty acids among its fatty acid content and contains plant extracts from bitter melon and Jerusalem artichoke. Furthermore, 50% of the net carbohydrate content, excluding dietary fiber and allulose, is replaced with palatinose.
‘hy’ also launched the premium balanced nutritional meal for diabetic patients, ‘It’s On Care On Dang Care.’ This product is a patient food designed for diabetic patients who require blood sugar management and fully meets the calorie and nutrient ratio recommended by the Ministry of Health and Welfare for diabetic patients.
Notably, it is made using ‘allulose,’ a low-calorie sugar substitute, and considering dietary recommendations for diabetic patients, it contains 20% of the daily recommended amount of dietary fiber, hy’s patented probiotics, and 23 vitamins and minerals in one pack, allowing easy and convenient intake of essential nutrients.
An industry official stated, “The market for elderly-friendly foods and special medical patient foods is showing an annual increase, leading food and health functional food companies to actively launch care food products. Especially with aging, the number of patients with various diseases is increasing, raising the demand for nutritional supplements for patients and nutritional meals that the general public can consume easily for preventive purposes.”
