[Gangjin=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-su] Processed foods made primarily from Gangjin rice barley have achieved the remarkable feat of entering the global market.
According to Gangjin County on the 16th, Namdo Nongsan (CEO Jeon Byeong-ha) launched rice barley powder, which has been stocked and started selling at Namdaemun Market in Atlanta, USA.
Namdaemun Market, established in 2005, is a large market chain with 8 stores and about 550 employees in the Atlanta area.
Last year, Namdo Nongsan introduced rice barley powder made using rice barley. This rice barley powder, which allows for convenient nutritional supplementation in a busy daily life, is gaining attention as a well-being food, known not only for its excellent taste but also for its health benefits such as cardiovascular disease prevention, dementia prevention, and skin beauty.
Building on success in the domestic market, Namdo Nongsan has exported 1,200 boxes of rice barley powder to the United States. Currently, the rice barley powder is sold at $8.99 (about 10,000 KRW) per box, and depending on market response, the export volume will be increased to expand sales throughout the United States.
County Governor Lee Seung-ok said, “I believe the rice barley powder made from Gangjin rice barley is sufficiently competitive in terms of price and nutrition,” adding, “We will use this export as an opportunity to actively promote the entry of Gangjin agricultural specialty products into the global market.”
Meanwhile, in addition to rice barley powder, Gangjin County’s representative specialty products such as mushroom snacks and sword bean tea were listed and sold last year on ‘Amazon,’ the world’s largest online shopping mall. Exports of agricultural products such as Saecheongmu rice, paprika, asparagus, and strawberries are also actively taking place.
