Jangheung-gun Achieves Final Selection in New Comprehensive Sports Club Public Contest 'Great Success'

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Jangheung-gun, Jeollanam-do (County Governor Jeong Jong-sun) announced on the 16th that it was selected for the '2021 New Comprehensive Sports Club Public Contest Project' hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korean Sports Council, together with the Jangheung-gun Sports Council on the 11th.

Public sports clubs foster local-based sports clubs where multi-generational and multi-layered members can learn and enjoy various level-specific programs at affordable costs, using local sports facilities as hubs. This is a core motto in the sports sector included in the current government's top 100 national tasks of creating "a vibrant nation where all citizens enjoy sports."

The county and the sports council have thoroughly prepared for the project selection, participating in the first document evaluation in May, the second presentation evaluation, and the third on-site inspection, actively explaining the necessity and justification of sports clubs in Jangheung-gun and making vigorous efforts to be selected for the comprehensive sports club contest.

Four local governments nationwide were selected for this contest, and Jangheung-gun and the Jangheung-gun Sports Council secured a total of 600 million KRW in national funding over five years.

Through this, they plan to operate with the goal of expanding the base of citizen sports activities, discovering excellent athletes, and creating employment opportunities for retired athletes within the region, aiming for the sports lifestyle of all Jangheung-gun residents.

County Governor Jeong Jong-sun said, "Our county is striving to become a sports mecca by building sports infrastructure such as the Korea Sports Talent Development Institute, Jeongnamjin Comprehensive Sports Town, and Jeongnamjin Park Golf Land," adding, "Taking this opportunity of being selected for the comprehensive sports club, we will make further efforts in sports welfare so that citizens can enjoy various sports."
