LG Uplus, Korea's First 5G 28GHz Golf Broadcast 'T-Shot'

[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] LG Uplus announced on the 16th that it will showcase the first-ever 5G 28 gigahertz (GHz) based broadcast content in Korea on its golf service platform 'U+Golf' during the 'DB Group 35th Korea Women's Open Golf Championship,' held at Rainbow Hills CC in Eumseong-gun, Chungbuk, until the 20th.

U+Golf is a golf service platform that gathers live golf match broadcasts, schedules and information for each tournament, golf lessons, and entertainment content all in one place through its mobile app and IPTV service 'U+tv.' It offers various content and features for golf enthusiasts, including ▲'Exclusive Popular Player Broadcasts' allowing viewers to select matches of popular players ▲5G-based 'Swing Close-up Video' that lets users freely rotate players' golf swings from multiple angles and zoom in up to 4 times ▲5G '3D Course Broadcast' that provides an at-a-glance view of match situations with 3D graphics ▲'Replay Last Hole' feature enabling easy review of previous hole scenes during live matches.

LG Uplus has established a dedicated 5G 28 GHz channel on the U+Golf app and will exclusively broadcast tee shots on signature holes (par 3 holes) of various players participating in this tournament. Additionally, ultra-high-speed cameras will be installed at specific courses and holes on the golf course to provide slow-motion videos of each player. To this end, LG Uplus built 5G 28 GHz base stations around Rainbow Hills CC and conducted service tests. After stable broadcasting of this tournament, LG Uplus plans to increase golf tournaments utilizing the 5G 28 GHz network starting from September.

Kim Seok-gu, Head of Golf Service at LG Uplus, said, "Through various attempts such as broadcasting signature holes based on 28 GHz, we will discover diverse content that excites golf fans and strengthen communication."

The DB Group 35th Korea Women's Open Golf Championship is the only national title tournament for Korean women's golf organized by the Korea Golf Association (KGA), with a total prize money of 1.2 billion KRW.
