[Asia Economy (Hongseong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Three islands in Chungnam province were included in the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s “33 Islands You Want to Visit in 2021.”
According to the province on the 16th, the “33 Islands You Want to Visit” project has been organized and promoted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety since 2016 to introduce island tourism resources and revitalize the local economy.
This year, the islands were selected under five themes: islands good for walking, islands good for photography, story islands, islands good for resting, and experience islands.
In Chungnam, Boryeong Sapsido (island good for walking), Boryeong Godaedo (story island), and Hongseong Jukdo (island good for resting) were included in the “33 Islands You Want to Visit.”
Boryeong Sapsido has the advantage of allowing visitors to walk the Sapsido trail connecting the southernmost and northernmost villages, visiting various seaside attractions along the way.
While walking the trail, visitors can encounter Bamseom Beach, which has the longest white sand beach on Sapsido, and Mulmangteo, a spring where cool fresh water gushes from the cracks in the rocks all year round.
Boryeong Godaedo has the historical significance of being the site of the first Protestant missionary work in Joseon in 1832. On this island, there is Godaedo Church commemorating Karl G?tzlaff, the first Protestant missionary in Joseon, and beyond the village’s Dangsan (village guardian) stands Dangsan Beach, surrounded by strange rock formations and golden sand pine trees.
Hongseong Jukdo features a bamboo forest trail where visitors can enjoy walking through the lush bamboo forest, appreciate the island’s natural environment, and admire the scenery of Cheonsuman Bay from the viewing rest area.
