146 Entries Received This Year → 54 Final Selections Through Review... Total 1,336 Certifications Since 2009
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government has selected 54 public facilities, including benches and fences of safe and excellent quality that improve the urban landscape, as certified products of the '26th Seoul Excellent Public Design.' Certified products receive benefits such as exemption from review, use of certification marks, and promotional support.
The Seoul Excellent Public Design certifies outstanding public facilities such as benches, fences, street lamps, and bicycle racks that combine aesthetics and safety to create a beautiful and safe city. Since 2009, a total of 1,336 products have been certified, and certified products will be installed throughout Seoul as certified products for two years.
In February this year, the Seoul Excellent Public Design announced the selection plan and, through the website, received a total of 146 products, which underwent document review, physical inspection, and on-site inspection, ultimately selecting 54 products. The certification period is two years.
Certified products are granted the right to use the certification mark for the next two years and receive promotional support from the Seoul Metropolitan Government. Certification plaques will be distributed to each company starting from the 28th.
Meanwhile, the Seoul Metropolitan Government also operates the Seoul Design Clinic program for companies that were not selected as Seoul Excellent Public Design certified products. Public design experts provide one-on-one customized guidance, from analyzing reasons for certification failure to design consultation.
Lee Hye-young, Director of the Seoul Design Policy Division, said, “Through the Seoul Excellent Public Design certification system, Seoul is implementing safe and beautiful urban spaces and continuing to support design companies struggling due to COVID-19 with product development consultation and promotion of certified products. We will continue to create a livable urban landscape for citizens and communicate with related companies to take the lead in ‘promoting public design.’”
