Dongdaemun-gu Provides Delivery Opportunities to Vulnerable Groups

Agreement Signed with Seoul Dongdaemun Regional Self-Sufficiency Center to Support Vulnerable Groups' Social Advancement through Public-Private Cooperation

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Yoo Deok-yeol) signed a business agreement with the Seoul Dongdaemun Regional Self-Sufficiency Center (Director Byun Mi-sook) on the 9th to promote the ‘Dongdaemun-gu, Our Neighborhood Delivery Service’ for the social advancement of vulnerable groups.

The ‘Dongdaemun-gu, Our Neighborhood Delivery Service’ is a part of the village logistics project aimed at creating local jobs and providing opportunities for the social advancement of vulnerable groups.

Local residents, including vulnerable groups, participate in the project, and after professional training, participants are responsible for delivering consigned or return parcels within designated areas.

The district office is in charge of budget and administrative support, the Seoul Dongdaemun Regional Self-Sufficiency Center handles project planning and delivery service operations, and the Social Economy Support Center is responsible for resource investigation and infrastructure development.

Furthermore, this project is significant as a sustainable community co-prosperity initiative where local governments, public institutions, delivery companies, and target apartment complexes collaborate to solve social issues and provide opportunities for vulnerable groups to advance socially.

With the implementation of the project, it is expected not only to provide jobs for vulnerable groups but also to resolve delivery conflicts in apartment complexes and alleviate the excessive workload of delivery workers, addressing recent community issues.

Yoo Deok-yeol, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, “Through this project, we aim to provide stable jobs to Dongdaemun-gu residents, including vulnerable groups,” and added, “We will continue to create local jobs through cooperation with various groups and strive to solve social problems as well.”
