[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Jung-gu (District Mayor Seo Yang-ho) announced on the 15th that it will support the 'Safe Home 3-piece Set' for single women households to alleviate their anxiety and provide a safe living environment.
According to 2018 Statistics Korea data, Jung-gu was ranked among the top three districts in Seoul with the highest proportion of single women households compared to general households, alongside Gwanak-gu and Mapo-gu. This is why there is greater concern for the safety of women living alone.
This project, promoted in collaboration with Jung-gu Women’s Plaza and Namu Women’s Rights Counseling Center, forms a public-private-police council with Jungbu Police Station, Namdaemun Police Station, and residents to provide customized crime prevention services focused on the safe living of vulnerable single women households.
The Safe Home 3-piece Set consists of ▲Smart Doorbell (linked to a smartphone to check the situation at the front door) ▲Auxiliary Door Lock (double-lock safety device) ▲Portable Emergency Bell (alarm sound and emergency message transmission).
Eligible recipients are single women households and single-parent households residing in Jung-gu living in rental housing with a deposit of 200 million KRW or less. Applicants can choose to apply for all or part of the 3-piece set.
The application period is until Friday, July 30, and applicants can submit the application form and required documents via email (hi@jgwoman@or.kr) or by mail, referring to the notice on the Jung-gu Office website.
The district office will select the final recipients in August, considering the applicant’s housing type and safety vulnerability, and installation will begin in September.
For more details, contact the Jung-gu Office Women and Childcare Division or Jung-gu Women’s Plaza.
In addition to supporting the Safe Home 3-piece Set, Jung-gu plans to install emergency bells at stores operated by single women in vulnerable areas and operates a citizen surveillance team to detect illegal filming devices installed in public restrooms.
Furthermore, efforts are being made to create a safe living environment for women through initiatives such as Safe Return Scouts, women’s safe delivery lockers, designated Safe Keeper Houses at local convenience stores, and auxiliary lighting installation on the way home.
Seo Yang-ho, Mayor of Jung-gu, stated, "With the recent increase in crimes targeting women, social anxiety is rising, and measures to prevent victimization are necessary. We will continue to develop various safety policies that contribute to creating a safe living environment for women in Jung-gu."
