Charge of Robbery and Injury... Court Cites "Risk of Flight"
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] Two suspects involved in a robbery incident, who disguised themselves as delivery workers to break into a home in an apartment in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, have been detained.
Seo Bo-min, the chief judge in charge of warrants at the Seoul Central District Court, conducted a pre-arrest detention hearing (warrant substantive examination) for Park (51) and Song, who are accused of robbery and injury, starting at 3 p.m. on the 15th, and subsequently issued arrest warrants.
Judge Seo stated the reason for issuing the warrants was "concern over the risk of flight."
Park and others, along with two other accomplices who have not yet been apprehended, are accused of deceiving their way into a high-rise apartment in Gaepo-dong, Gangnam-gu, around 3:30 p.m. on the 9th of this month by claiming they had come to pick up a return package. They allegedly attacked the homeowner with a weapon, causing injuries, and fled after stealing a mobile phone and valuables.
Song, who appeared at the warrant hearing with Park, is suspected of driving the vehicle used by the three perpetrators, although he did not directly participate in the crime.
While being pursued by the police, Park caused an accident at around 10:10 a.m. on the 13th in a narrow alley in Galhyeon-dong, Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul, by hitting a man in his 70s riding a bicycle with his car. After getting out of the car and attempting to flee, he was caught by two citizens about 10 minutes later and handed over to the police who were lying in wait nearby based on the GPS data from his vehicle. Song was apprehended at around 1:20 p.m. the same day in a residential area in the western part of Incheon.
The police are tracking the remaining two accomplices and are also investigating the possibility of other co-conspirators.
