[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Mokpo National University (President Park Min-seo) announced on the 15th that a total of 11 research projects were finally selected in the first half of 2021 by the Korea Research Foundation's academic and humanities social projects and basic research projects in the field of science and technology, supported by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Science and ICT.
The academic and humanities social projects and basic research projects in the field of science and technology aim to strengthen creative and challenging basic research and nurture excellent researchers to expand South Korea's future capabilities, enhance the national research and development (R&D) achievements of universities, and strengthen academic research capabilities.
This time, Mokpo National University was selected for a total of 11 projects, including 2 projects supporting new researchers in humanities and social sciences (Professor Yoo Cheon of the Department of Trade, Professor Lee Jae-hwan of the Department of Liberal Arts), 6 projects in basic science and engineering research (Professor Kim Kwang-jun of the Department of Pharmacy, Professor Kim Tae-kyung of the Department of Electronic Information and Communication Engineering, Professor Seo Seung-seok of the Department of Life Sciences, Professor Seo Jae-hyun of the Department of Information Security, Professor Yang Ki-cheol of the Department of Convergence Software, Professor Cha Soo-jung of the Department of Fashion and Clothing), and 3 projects for outstanding scientists at regional universities in basic science and engineering (Professor Kang Jung-won of the Department of New Materials Engineering, Professor Kim Sun-kyung of the Department of Nursing, Professor Lee Jae-bin of the Department of Civil Engineering).
Going forward, the principal investigators at Mokpo National University selected for the projects will receive a total of over 2.1 billion KRW in support for periods ranging from 1 to 7 years per project, conducting active basic research in areas such as building an extended reality and mobile app-based immersive learning platform, developing advanced data processing technology for domestic coastal and river surveying, and developing air electrodes for lithium-air batteries.
