[Jindo=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] Jindo-gun, Jeollanam-do, is conducting COVID-19 vaccinations on the naval training ship Hansando for residents of the Jodo-myeon island area, where there are no medical facilities, who wish to receive the vaccine.

According to the military on the 15th, the vaccinations are being carried out from the 14th to the 19th, targeting approximately 550 residents aged 30 and over who wish to be vaccinated in 18 island areas of Jodo-myeon, including Gasado and Seongnamdo.

After Hansando docks, the vaccination candidates are transported using a high-speed rigid inflatable boat (RIB), landing craft, and administrative vessels.

Vaccinations are administered by naval medical personnel, and recipients are observed for a certain period to monitor any reactions. If any adverse reactions occur after vaccination, emergency treatment is provided.

If a severe adverse reaction occurs, vaccinations will be halted, and the patient will be promptly transported to a hospital using a Coast Guard helicopter.

The vaccine used in this round of vaccinations is the Janssen vaccine, which provides immunity with a single dose and is considered suitable for island residents who face relatively limited mobility.

The Navy conducted a joint inspection and simulation training on the 11th to check the readiness for administering the Janssen vaccine and to familiarize themselves with the vaccination procedures and resident support protocols.

A Jindo-gun Public Health Center official stated, “We are doing our best to ensure that no island residents miss out on vaccination due to accessibility issues,” adding, “Since immunity is not established immediately after vaccination, it is most important to continue following personal quarantine rules such as wearing masks even after receiving the vaccine.”
