[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-seop] Pepper Savings Bank announced on the 15th that it received a commendation from the Ansan Danwon Police Station for preventing voice phishing scams through the installation of illegal applications (apps).

According to Pepper Savings Bank, on the 1st, a bank employee working at the Ansan branch identified that a customer's loan payoff certificate was forged and immediately informed the customer that it was a fraud crime. Following the response manual, the employee quickly assessed the customer's situation, reported it internally, and notified the police.

It was found to be a typical phone interception method involving the installation of illegal apps, impersonating the Pepper Savings Bank bond team. Initially, the customer was induced to repay 12 million KRW in cash, and 6 million KRW was collected by the cash collector, but the customer’s visit to the branch prevented further damage to the remaining amount.

Matthew Jang, CEO of Pepper Savings Bank, stated, “Financial crimes are becoming increasingly sophisticated. We will disseminate excellent cases of voice phishing prevention within the company and continuously conduct education for prevention to do our best to fundamentally block future financial accidents.”
