Four Hwanil High School Students Assist in Rescuing a Man in His 20s Hanging from a Railing
Ham Hye-seong, Director of the Lifelong Education and Career Bureau at the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, visited Hwanil High School on the 14th to award certificates of commendation to students Jeong Da-woon, Jeon Tae-hyun, Jeong Du, and Kim Dong-young, who helped rescue a man in his 20s at Mapo Bridge.
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Four students from Hwanil High School in Seoul who rescued a man attempting an extreme act on Mapo Bridge received commendations from the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education.
On the 15th, the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education announced that students Jeong Daun, Jeon Taehyun, Jeong Du, and Kim Dongyoung from Hwanil High School were awarded commendations as exemplary students for their good deeds.
In the early morning of May 1st, around 2 a.m., the students, along with firefighters, held onto and rescued a man in his twenties who was hanging from the railing of Mapo Bridge. The scene of their participation in the rescue was reported in the media, and the students received encouragement from various organizations and citizens.
The students said, "Anyone in that position would have naturally helped; we just did what was right, but we are grateful to receive an award."
Cho Heeyeon, Superintendent of the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, said, "I praise the courageous actions of the students who respect the lives of others, and I will use this incident as an opportunity to strengthen life-respecting education in schools so that all students can foster a culture of helping others without hesitation."
