President Moon: "Cultivating Vienna's Public Spirit into the World's Most Livable City"

Visit to Vienna Mayor of Austria... Vienna Mayor "Support for President Moon's Peace, Labor, and Minimum Wage Policies"

[Austria (Vienna) = Joint Press Corps] President Moon Jae-in, during his visit to Vienna City Hall on the 14th (local time), stated, "The citizens of Vienna have cultivated Vienna into the most livable city in the world through a spirit of public-mindedness," adding, "Forests, urban farms, and parks account for 50% of Vienna's total area, and the per capita green space is the highest in the world. It is truly an enviable and exemplary global model that we want to learn from."

President Moon said, "The citizens of Vienna overcame the 17th-century plague with a spirit of public-mindedness. They strengthened urban hygiene, established special hospitals for the elderly and infirm to care for patients, and fought infectious diseases. The Plague Column erected after Vienna overcame the epidemic has become a symbol of hope for humanity fighting COVID-19."

President Moon added, "The Korean people love Vienna along with Mozart. Johann Strauss's 'Tales from the Vienna Woods' is a waltz very much loved by Koreans. I hope that many Koreans will visit Vienna again as they did before COVID-19."

Michael Ludwig, Mayor of Vienna, explained, "The first First Lady of Korea was from Austria. She was the daughter of a coal manufacturer, an Austrian, and Vienna’s 22nd district was named after her," adding, "Among Asian countries, Korea is the third most important economic and trade partner from Austria’s perspective."

Mayor Michael Ludwig said, "President Moon Jae-in has personally made great efforts. Especially, he has worked very hard for peace and human rights protection and was previously a human rights lawyer. Therefore, I believe he is someone who has received a special calling."

Mayor Michael Ludwig stated, "In international relations, I think it is really important to achieve deep cooperation in economic and political aspects. Especially regarding peace, minimum wage in the labor market, and various other fields, Austria would like to express its support."

Mayor Michael Ludwig said, "In particular, looking at the case of the Republic of Korea overcoming the COVID-19 crisis, the number of infected people was low, and economically, there was no significant damage. Additionally, there was no lockdown implemented. I am greatly impressed and would like to once again congratulate Korea and its people."
