[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyewon] GS Caltex announced on the 14th that it has launched Kixx EV, a dedicated lubricant brand for electric vehicles.
Kixx EV is GS Caltex's flagship brand for electric vehicle lubricants. Electric vehicle lubricants include transmission lubricants for reducers or motor-integrated reducers and cooling system lubricants that help cool the battery's heat. These lubricants play a crucial role not only in preventing wear of vehicle components, ensuring efficient operation and extending component lifespan, but also in regulating the battery temperature to enhance battery performance.
GS Caltex has completed the development of transmission lubricants for electric vehicles and is currently developing cooling system lubricants for electric vehicles. In particular, GS Caltex is participating in a consortium for electric vehicle lubricant development led by the U.S. research institute SwRI (Southwest Research Institute), advancing the development of various global-standard electric vehicle lubricants. The transmission lubricants developed by GS Caltex are supplied to domestic electric vehicle manufacturers.
A GS Caltex official stated, "To respond to the rapidly changing eco-friendly mobility market, we will continue our efforts to develop electric vehicle lubricant products, starting with the launch of Kixx Hybrid, an engine oil dedicated to hybrid vehicles released last year," adding, "We will also continue our efforts to develop eco-friendly lubricant technologies." GS Caltex plans to complete the development of eco-friendly lubricants made from bio-based raw materials and eco-friendly product containers within this year.
GS Caltex has been producing and selling lubricant products since 1969. In particular, since its launch in 2005, Kixx has grown into Korea's leading lubricant brand covering 180 types of lubricants, including automotive and industrial uses. GS Caltex Kixx has been selected as the number one lubricant brand for five consecutive years in the lubricant category at the "Korea First Brand Awards" hosted by the Korea Consumer Forum.
