Mapo Central Library Hosts Session on "The Age of Science, the Future of Humanity" Exploring the Future Accelerated by COVID-19 and the 4th Industrial Revolution
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun) announced that it will hold a session at Mapo Central Library under the theme "The Age of Science, The Future of Humanity" to explore the future accelerated by COVID-19 and the 4th Industrial Revolution.
Every year, the district actively monitors changes in the times by selecting timely topics through the planned lecture series "Library of Wisdom" at Mapo Central Library.
This year, the theme of "Library of Wisdom" is set as "The Age of Science, The Future of Humanity," aiming to share with residents the meaning of the rapidly approaching era of artificial intelligence and the human roles needed to respond to it.
To this end, the district has prepared lectures by experts in various fields divided into detailed topics such as AI and neuroscience, AI and ethics, climate and environmental changes and future energy, and future arts.
Starting with the lecture "How Did We Reach This Present?" by Professor Hong Sung-wook of Seoul National University's Department of Biological Sciences held on April 21, various lectures will be offered until November 3.
The second lecture, "The Future of Artificial Intelligence: Superintelligence" by Professor Jang Byung-tak of Seoul National University's Department of Computer Engineering, is scheduled for the 16th.
On July 7, attendees can enjoy the lecture "Are Neuroscience and Artificial Intelligence the Same Discipline?" by neuroscientist Song Min-ryeong.
Applications for lectures can be made on the Mapo Central Library website (Cultural Events section), with 60 participants allowed per session.
Since the "Library of Wisdom" lectures are held offline, the program will be operated strictly following quarantine guidelines such as social distancing between seats, visitor verification, hand sanitization, and mask-wearing. Depending on circumstances, lectures may be switched to non-face-to-face sessions using Zoom.
For inquiries related to "Library of Wisdom," please refer to the notices on the Mapo Central Library website or contact the Library Operations Team at Mapo Central Library.
Yoo Dong-gyun, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, "Through the high-quality lectures prepared at Mapo Central Library, we expect to provide youth with new growth opportunities and adults with a chance to understand and cope with the already approaching AI era."
