Seoul COVID-19 Cases Confirmed at 164 by 6 PM

[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that the number of new COVID-19 confirmed cases was 164 during the 18-hour period from midnight to 6 p.m. on Saturday, the 12th.


Compared to the same time frame, this is 25 fewer than the 189 cases reported the previous day (the 11th) and 1 more than the 163 cases reported on the same day last week (the 5th). The total number of confirmed cases for the entire day was 208 on the 11th and 179 on the 5th.


Over the past two months, the daily number of confirmed cases in Seoul has generally been over 200 on weekdays, while on weekends, holidays, and early in the week?when testing numbers decrease?the cases have dropped below 200, maintaining an overall daily average fluctuating around 200.


During the recent 15-day period (May 28 to June 11), the average daily number of confirmed cases in Seoul was 191, with an average daily testing volume of 30,594 people. The average positivity rate was around 0.6%. During this period, the daily number of tests ranged from 33,000 to 38,000 on weekdays, 22,000 to 25,000 on Saturdays, and 15,000 to 17,000 on Sundays.


Among the new confirmed cases identified in Seoul by 6 p.m. on this day, 1 was imported from overseas, and the remaining 163 were domestic infections.


From ongoing cluster infections, new confirmed cases included 13 from a workplace in Dongdaemun-gu (occurred in June), 3 from a workplace in Yeongdeungpo-gu (occurred in June), and 2 from Garak Market in Songpa-gu (occurred in May). Additionally, 3 more cases were linked to hospitals and nursing facilities.


Among new confirmed cases not separately managed as cluster infections, 70 had confirmed contact with prior confirmed cases, while 72 were under investigation due to unclear infection routes.


Furthermore, at the 'Dongdaemun-gu workplace,' which is the constituency office of Democratic Party lawmaker Ahn Gyu-baek, a cumulative total of 28 related confirmed cases were reported over three days (June 10?12). The number may increase further. Lawmaker Ahn was confirmed positive on the 10th.


As of 6 p.m. on this day, the cumulative number of confirmed cases in Seoul stood at 46,466. The total number of confirmed cases for the entire day will be compiled as of midnight on the 13th and announced in the morning.
