521 COVID-19 Cases Confirmed by 9 PM... 500s Expected in Mid to Late Range Tomorrow

According to the quarantine authorities and local governments including Seoul, from midnight to 9 p.m. on the same day, a total of 521 new confirmed COVID-19 cases were recorded nationwide. This is one more than the 520 cases reported at the same time the previous day.

By region, 382 cases were reported in the metropolitan area and 139 cases in non-metropolitan areas. By city and province, there were 204 cases in Seoul, 158 in Gyeonggi, 26 in Busan, 24 in Gyeongnam, 22 in Daegu, 20 in Incheon, 19 in Daejeon, 11 in Gangwon, 7 each in Gwangju and Chungbuk, 6 in Ulsan, 5 each in Chungnam, Gyeongbuk, and Jeju, and 1 each in Jeonbuk and Jeonnam. Among the 17 cities and provinces, no confirmed cases have yet been reported in Sejong.

Since the count is made until midnight, the number of new confirmed cases announced at 0:00 on the 12th is expected to increase further, reaching the mid to high 500s or the 600s. On the previous day, 36 additional cases were reported after 9 p.m., closing at a total of 556 cases.

Based on the announcement date, the number of new confirmed cases reported daily over the past week from the 5th to the 11th were 744 → 556 → 485 → 454 → 602 → 611 → 556.

The daily average number of locally transmitted cases, a key indicator for adjusting social distancing levels, stands at 553, still within the 2.5 level range (nationwide 400?500 or more).

Regarding major cluster infection cases, in the metropolitan area, 11 people tested positive at a church in Gangbuk-gu, Seoul since the 9th, and a total of 14 cases have been confirmed since the 8th related to an auto parts company in Chungju, Chungbuk. In the Gangwon region, 11 family members tested positive since the 7th at a funeral home in Chuncheon, and 6 students, staff, and family members have been infected and are receiving treatment since the 8th at a middle school in Hongcheon-gun. In the Daegu entertainment bar case, 5 additional infections were identified during contact tracing, increasing the cumulative number of confirmed cases to 377.
