Selected as Candidates for 'Seongbuk-gu One Book' Including From the Gaze · Cheon Gaeui Parang

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) has announced the 'Final Candidate Books for Seongbuk-gu Book of the Year.'

The 2021 Seongbuk-gu final candidate books are ▲ From the Gaze (Jeong Se-rang) ▲ The World of Childhood (Kim So-young) ▲ Yuwon (Baek On-yu) ▲ A Thousand Blues (Cheon Seon-ran), totaling four books.

Since its inception in 2010, the Seongbuk-gu One Book Reading Movement has marked its 11th year this year, establishing itself as a representative reading campaign. The Seongbuk-gu One Book, selected through discussions by the One Book Promotion Committee, a resident council involving various generations, reflects major issues and the zeitgeist of each era.

This year’s Seongbuk-gu One Book stood out for the active participation of residents despite the COVID-19 situation.

During March, residents recommended about 270 books, after which 50 residents and librarians conducted intensive research and lengthy discussions over three months to select the four final candidate books (Resident Recommended Books (270) → First Candidate Books (10) → Final Candidate Books (4) → Seongbuk-gu One Book (1)).

The four final candidate books selected in this way will be introduced to residents through various events and programs hosted by the Seongbuk-gu Public Library, including author meetings, resident discussion sessions, and lending services. Following a large-scale discussion, the One Book will be finally selected in October.

The One Book Promotion Committee, which selects the Seongbuk-gu One Book, currently includes over 530 residents, and anyone can join and participate through the Seongbuk-gu Public Library and online until September 30.
