9670 Mini Roses and 3118 Four-Season Roses Planted in Noryangjin Neighborhood Park... 5 Benches Installed and Permeable Block Paving for a Pleasant Park Environment
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Changwoo Lee) planted roses around Noryangjin Neighborhood Park in Daebang-dong to provide a space where residents can heal and recover from the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
Noryangjin Neighborhood Park is a major park and walking trail extending from Daebang-dong to Songhak Grand Park and Gogu Hill, featuring jogging tracks, tennis courts, and recreational spaces for residents, as well as resting areas with ground fountains and artificial waterfalls.
Along the walking trail, visitors can also encounter folklore about Park Taebo, a civil official during King Sukjong’s reign in the Joseon Dynasty, allowing families to enjoy a fun historical journey while resting.
This year, with a project budget of 200 million KRW, roses were planted and various convenience facilities were improved within Noryangjin Neighborhood Park to create a pleasant park environment.
The main initiatives included ▲ planting 9,670 mini roses such as White Moss Dock and Mothers’ Day, grown small through horticultural techniques, and 3,118 seasonal roses like Pink Perfume and Shooter’s Gold that bloom with strong fragrances in spring, summer, and fall ▲ installing grass protection mats and tree guards ▲ and paving with permeable blocks.
Additionally, five park benches were installed to provide residents with spaces to enjoy the scenery and relax. Continuous maintenance such as weed removal, aphid control, and rose branch trimming will be carried out to keep the park clean.
Moreover, in 2019, the district planted climbing roses and installed lattice arches (trellises) as a resident-participation budget project in the green area along the Gyeongbu Line 2 railway (around 25-10 Noryangjin-dong), and last year created a rose tunnel along the Magpie Mountain hiking trail near 1150-2 Sadang 4-dong.
Kim Wonsik, Director of the Parks and Greenery Division, said, “Through this project, we hope that residents exhausted by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic can heal together with their families in an urban garden.”
