Seoul Gangseo-gu 'Visiting Our Neighborhood Career Support' Initiative

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] An activist ??? who participated in the ‘Visiting Our Neighborhood Career Support Project’ said, “Even for just one child, the warm hands and attention of the local community are necessary,” adding, “Through mentoring activities, there have been meaningful changes such as children setting positive career directions.”

Gangseo-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Roh Hyun-song) is promoting the ‘Visiting Our Neighborhood Career Support Project,’ where schools, community service centers, and local children’s centers serve as career and academic mentors for children.

The purpose is to help children and adolescents who face difficulties in career, learning, daily life, and emotional aspects during their growth stages to grow up healthily and happily.

To actively promote the project, the district formed a team of career support activists and assigned them to each base institution. Career support activists are deployed to 7 community service centers, 11 local children’s centers, and 3 elementary schools to provide ‘close career coaching.’

Through various activities such as ‘Career Reading,’ where children read picture books and youth literature to find their aptitudes; ‘Career Mentoring,’ which involves establishing career plans based on various assessments; ‘Career Art,’ designing career directions through creative art activities; and ‘Career Board Games,’ offering indirect job experience through board games, children are guided to discover and nurture their dreams.

Each activity is conducted over multiple sessions, helping children to independently plan their futures and achieve practical growth through continuous engagement.

Detailed information such as specific program schedules by institution can be found on the ‘Gangseo-gu Office website - Notices/News’ section.

A district official stated, “Our goal is to help every single child grow up healthy and happy through personalized education,” adding, “We will continue to develop programs that eliminate care gaps and support students’ career, learning, and emotional needs.”

Meanwhile, last year the district conducted the ‘Visiting Our Neighborhood Career Support Project,’ with a total of 1,143 students participating in 330 career and learning counseling sessions.
