[Asia Economy Reporter Minji Lee] As vaccination rates increase, airline stocks are soaring on news that group travel will be allowed only for vaccinated individuals starting next month.
As of 9:54 a.m. on the 9th, T'way Air was trading at 4,335 KRW, up 6.91% from the previous trading day. Other airlines also showed gains, including Jin Air (6.15%), Korean Air (5.50%), T'way Holdings (3.62%), Jeju Air (3.41%), and Hanjin KAL (1.67%).
On the same day, Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum stated at the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters meeting held at the government Sejong Complex, "After consultations with countries where quarantine situations are stable, we plan to allow group travel for those who have completed vaccination as early as July."
Prime Minister Kim explained, "International travel has been restricted for a long time, severely impacting the airline and travel industries, and many citizens are hoping for the resumption of overseas travel. If vaccinated individuals test negative on diagnostic tests upon entry and exit, they will be able to travel without separate quarantine."
