LG Energy Solution is focusing its capabilities on providing customers with sustainable energy solutions by considering ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) throughout its management activities. To this end, the company practices sustainable management in terms of eco-friendly energy, battery reuse and recycling, and responsible supply chain management.
In April this year, LG Energy Solution demonstrated its commitment to eco-friendliness by becoming the first in the industry to simultaneously join RE100 and EV100. The plants in Poland and the United States operate using 100% renewable energy. The plants in Korea and China aim to transition by 2030. In particular, the Ochang plant in Korea participated in the Green Premium system, which was implemented for the first time domestically under government leadership this year, securing 61 GWh of renewable energy annually through bidding.
Additionally, by joining EV100, which aims to convert 100% of company-owned and leased vehicles under 3.5 tons and 50% of vehicles between 3.5 and 7.5 tons to eco-friendly vehicles by 2030, LG Energy Solution is accelerating its ESG management efforts to become a company that passes on a beautiful environment to future generations, beyond being a simple battery manufacturing company.
With the growth of the electric vehicle battery market, the utilization of used batteries has emerged as one of the core businesses of sustainable management. Accordingly, LG Energy Solution is seeking business opportunities in 'battery reuse,' which refurbishes used batteries recovered from electric vehicles for other purposes, and 'battery recycling,' which disassembles batteries to extract raw materials such as nickel, cobalt, and manganese.
Recently, LG Energy Solution installed an 'electric vehicle charging ESS system' made by reusing used batteries at the Ochang plant for this reason. The ESS, developed over about a year, is a charger made from batteries removed from electric taxis that have run more than 100,000 km and is used for charging electric vehicles. LG Energy Solution is also striving to build a clean and transparent supply chain that considers environment, human rights, and anti-corruption regarding the raw materials used in battery production. To this end, the company has established and announced a policy embodying the philosophy of responsible raw material supply chain management.
