[Asia Economy Reporter Han Seung-gon, PD Yoon Jin-geun] "Using real dolls is not something to be for or against!", "It can create prejudice against women."
Recently, as the police announced plans to crack down on 'real doll experience rooms,' controversy over businesses using real dolls has been ongoing among citizens. Citizens met near Cheonggyecheon in Seoul raised their voices that using real dolls is a personal matter. On the other hand, there are criticisms that the operation of real doll experience rooms should be stopped altogether, as it is essentially prostitution.
A man in his 50s, office worker Mr. A, said, "Renting real dolls is an act of selling sex, so I oppose it," pointing out that easily renting real dolls can encourage attitudes or prejudices against women in our society.
Another office worker in his 40s, Mr. B, said, "I support the personal use of real dolls and do not see it as a matter to oppose," but emphasized that "commercialization is prohibited in our country as prostitution is illegal." He added, "Commercializing it is not good, and I am in favor of police crackdowns."
A citizen in their 20s, Mr. C, criticized, "Real doll experience rooms are legally not problematic, but if they become widespread, they could harm a healthy sexual culture," and said, "From the perspective of minors and guardians, it does not seem good for children to be exposed to real dolls from an early age."
Meanwhile, the police plan to form a joint crackdown team with the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family and conduct on-site inspections until the 31st of next month.
