[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] According to the Democratic Party's comprehensive real estate investigation, Representative Kim Han-jung, who was advised to leave the party due to suspicions of using confidential information for personal gain, actively refuted the claims on the 8th, stating, "The purchase of the land in question is unrelated to the development of Wangsuk New Town," and "The party's actions are unfair and wrong."
In a statement released that day, Representative Kim said, "My wife purchased the land, but we have never engaged in speculation," and explained, "The land in question is a 230-pyeong plot located in the northern part of Namyangju, classified as a Type 1 general residential area, unrelated to farmland."
He continued, "When the party requested the resolution of owning two houses, my wife sold a detached house in Seoul that she had owned for 20 years, and purchased the land with the proceeds," adding, "The land was purchased on July 3, 2020, while Wangsuk New Town was confirmed on December 18, 2018." He explained that since the purchase was made one year and seven months after the confirmation of Wangsuk New Town, it does not constitute the use of confidential information.
He added, "The land is located in an outlying area more than 10 km away from Wangsuk New Town, making it difficult to expect development profits." He also emphasized that some conservative groups filed a complaint against his wife for violating the Farmland Act, but they provided detailed explanations regarding the land purchase, and on the 10th of last month, the charges were dismissed.
Furthermore, he stated, "Despite receiving a dismissal of charges from the National Police Agency, the party's action of recommending my resignation is wrong," and strongly demanded, "I strongly urge the party to withdraw this decision."
