[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, participated in the donation ceremony for the Myanmar democratization movement held at Seoul Citizen Hall on the 8th.
The Korean Human Rights Cities Council donated 10 million KRW to the Myanmar Democracy Network to support the democratization movement of the Myanmar people resisting the military coup. The donation will be used to support the democratization movement of the Myanmar people.
The Korean Human Rights Cities Council, which raised the donation, is a human rights consultation body among local governments nationwide aimed at realizing human rights cities through policy exchange and mutual cooperation for the protection and promotion of human rights.
It has 22 local governments as members nationwide, and in Seoul, eight autonomous districts including Seongdong, Dobong, and Seodaemun-gu have joined.
Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu and a member of the Korean Human Rights Cities Council, strongly condemned the Myanmar military’s killings of citizens and urged an immediate halt through a press conference on the declaration of support for the Myanmar democratization movement held in front of the Myanmar Embassy in Yongsan-gu in April.
Mayor Jung said, “The prolonged military coup in Myanmar is causing difficult times for the people,” adding, “I sincerely hope that this donation will bring hope to the Myanmar people and that warm peace will come to Myanmar as soon as possible.”
