[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangbuk-gu (Mayor Park Kyum-soo) will operate a humanities lecture in June under the theme of "Dinosaurs, Whales, Plastic, and Extinction."
The district's humanities lectures have been held since 2016 to provide useful information to local residents and to add small happiness to daily life through meetings with notable figures.
This year, due to the impact of COVID-19, the lectures are being held online.
"Dinosaurs, Whales, Plastic, and Extinction" addresses ecosystem preservation and environmental protection issues. It examines the impact of the climate crisis and environmental pollution on human history and provides time to consider ecological measures for humanity to survive safely.
The lecturer, Director Lee Jung-mo, previously served as the director of Seodaemun Natural History Museum and Seoul Science Museum, and is currently serving at the National Gwacheon Science Museum. His representative works include "Things Science Taught Me" and "Science Is Difficult for Me Too."
The program can be viewed on the YouTube channel "City of Historical and Cultural Tourism Gangbuk-gu."
The district plans to post the lectures for one month starting from June 14.
Gangbuk-gu Mayor Park Kyum-soo said, "Through this lecture, I hope residents realize the importance of protecting the ecosystem and take action to overcome the climate crisis well," adding, "The district will also make continuous efforts to pass on a better environment for future generations."
Meanwhile, the humanities lecture in July will feature Professor Kim Doo-gyu from Woosuk University's Department of Liberal Arts, who will give a lecture on the theme "Seoul's Mountain, Samgaksan." The lecture will be available on Gangbuk-gu's YouTube channel starting July 5.
