[Asia Economy Reporter Minwoo Lee] Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon, the world's largest e-commerce company, announced that he will go to space next month aboard a manned spacecraft of the private space exploration company he founded.

On the 7th, CEO Bezos stated on his social network service (SNS) Instagram, "I have dreamed of space travel since I was 5 years old," and "I will go to space with my brother on the 20th of next month."

According to major foreign media such as CNN and AFP, Bezos will travel to space aboard the first space tourism rocket 'New Shepard' manned capsule of the space exploration company 'Blue Origin' he founded, along with his younger brother Mark. The plan is to open a new era of the private space industry by launching the first tourist ballistic flight spacecraft.

According to AFP, four passengers will be on board this flight. The manned capsule is expected to float for 10 minutes at the 'Karman line,' the boundary between Earth's atmosphere and space.

Elon Musk, CEO of another American private space company SpaceX, and Richard Branson, chairman of Virgin Group which owns the British space company Virgin Galactic, have not yet traveled to space themselves. CNN reported that CEO Bezos will be recorded as the first billionaire to have traveled to space.

Meanwhile, Blue Origin held its first online auction for New Shepard boarding tickets last month. At that time, more than 5,200 people from 136 countries participated in the bidding. It was reported that the bid price for one seat rose to $2.4 million (about 2.67 billion KRW). Blue Origin plans to conduct a second auction until the 10th of next month and select the final successful bidder through an online live broadcast on the 12th of the same month.
