[Photo] Yuseonghun, Geumcheon District Mayor, Joins Metropolitan Area Waste Reduction Campaign 'Ssu·Hwak·Haeng'

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yuseonghun, the mayor of Geumcheon-gu, participated in the social network service (SNS) campaign ‘Ssu·Hwac·Haeng’ for reducing waste in the metropolitan area on the 3rd.

‘Ssu·Hwac·Haeng’ is an abbreviation for ‘certain actions to reduce waste,’ a waste reduction campaign jointly conducted by the Metropolitan Landfill Management Corporation and basic local governments in the metropolitan area.

The campaign proceeds by introducing projects promoted by each local government to reduce waste and then nominating the next participant.

Geumcheon-gu introduced its ice pack and coffee grounds recycling projects for the ‘Ssu·Hwac·Haeng’ challenge. Each project pursues not only waste reduction through recycling but also coexistence with the local community.

The ice pack recycling project collects ice packs through collection boxes installed at community service centers, then cleans, disinfects, dries, and packages them through the recycling process before providing them to the Uijang Market in Doksan-dong for reuse.

The coffee grounds recycling project collects coffee grounds, which were previously disposed of under the volume-based waste disposal system, and provides them to local farmers for reuse as compost.

Mayor Yuseonghun posted a ‘Geumcheon-gu Ssu·Hwac·Haeng campaign participation photo’ on social network services (SNS) that day and promised to work closely with residents to solve waste problems, saying, “Through Geumcheon-gu’s unique Ssu·Hwac·Haeng, we will strive not only to reduce waste but also to coexist with the local community.”

Having been nominated by Yeom Taeyoung, mayor of Suwon, Yuseonghun, the mayor of Geumcheon-gu, participated in this campaign and nominated Roh Hyun-song, mayor of Gangseo-gu, Seoul, and Park Hyung-woo, mayor of Gyeyang-gu, Incheon, as the next participants.
