Selection of 7 Research Program Projects, Ranked 3rd Nationwide
Seven undergraduate teams from the Department of Software at Dongseo University have been selected for research project assignments and will receive 4.8 million KRW in research funding per team for six months.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Undergraduate project teams at Dongseo University have received research funding of 4.8 million KRW per team, giving a boost to their research projects. There are a total of seven such teams.
Dongseo University (President Jang Je-guk) announced on the 7th that seven projects were selected for the Undergraduate Research Program (URP) organized by the Ministry of Education and the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity.
With seven projects selected, Dongseo University ranked third nationwide in terms of selection rate. Each student team from the Department of Software, selected for each project, will receive research funding of 4.8 million KRW over six months.
The Undergraduate Research Program (URP), organized by the Ministry of Education and the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity, supports research activities of science and engineering undergraduates to establish a gifted education support system linking elementary, middle, and high school to university, and to cultivate outstanding talents in the field of science and technology.
The selected projects are: △A study on increasing the effective field of view by minimizing the edge effect of gamma cameras △A study on a traffic congestion prediction system at intersections using Convolutional LSTM △Development of a hand-drawn clothing matching system through neural network learning △Development of an automatic expiration date notification chatbot based on deep learning and computer vision algorithms for the visually impaired △Development of an MR-based DIY design system and improvement of DIY interior UX △A study on drone delivery route setting techniques for Korean-style apartments △Research on a spot-the-difference generation system using generative adversarial neural networks.
Kim Min-su (Department of Software) said, “As a researcher affiliated with the AI-X Convergence Research Institute, I am pleased that the AI-based research idea I had been considering was selected as an actual project, and I will try to develop technology that can actually help the visually impaired.”
Dongseo University has made significant investments in AI education, centered on the Department of Software. Starting with the Department of Software in 2019, after being selected for the software-centered university project worth 2 billion KRW annually, the university completely revamped the existing undergraduate system and curriculum to cultivate AI specialists.
A Dongseo University official said, “We have newly established an AI Deep Track to train AI specialists, and opened the AI-X Convergence Research Institute to conduct AI research projects mainly led by undergraduates.”
