Physical Fight Between Labor Unions at Seoul Apartment Construction Site... 4 Including Police Trying to Intervene Injured Seoul Gangseo Police Station

[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] A physical clash between labor unions occurred at a new apartment construction site in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, resulting in injuries to a total of four people, including two union members and two police officers.

According to the Gangseo Police Station, at around 8:14 a.m. on the 7th, a fight broke out between members of the Korean Federation of Construction Industry Trade Unions (Korean Federation of Construction Unions) and the Korean Federation of Construction Industry Trade Unions at the entrance of a new apartment construction site in Hwagok-dong, Gangseo-gu.

The scuffle occurred between members of the Korean Federation of Construction Unions who were trying to enter the construction site for work and members of the Korean Federation of Construction Industry Trade Unions who were blocking them. One member from each union sustained injuries to the leg and waist, respectively, and were transported to the hospital.

Additionally, two police officers who were mediating the fight were also injured in the leg and taken to the hospital. It is reported that about 50 members of the Korean Federation of Construction Unions and about 100 members of the Korean Federation of Construction Industry Trade Unions remain at the site in a standoff.

Meanwhile, the clash stemmed from construction workers at the site switching their union affiliation from the Korean Federation of Construction Industry Trade Unions to the Korean Federation of Construction Unions.

A police official stated, "We plan to investigate any illegal activities based on the footage recorded later."
