"Predicting Cancer by Analyzing Genomic Information" Ministry of Science and ICT Selects MyData Demonstration Service

[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 7th that it has selected demonstration projects for MyData in five sectors?medical, public, financial, and more?that gather scattered personal data to provide new customized services.

Since March, the Ministry of Science and ICT has conducted a call for demonstration service projects, receiving applications from 28 consortia involving over 200 institutions and companies. Eight projects across five sectors?medical, financial, public, transportation, and daily consumption?were selected. This year’s demonstration projects will focus on supporting MyData services that allow citizens to view scattered personal data at a glance and directly experience benefits in daily life by utilizing increasingly open personal data in fields such as finance, medical care, and public services.

In the medical sector, services that can enhance and expand citizens’ benefits by utilizing public health, hospital medical, and personal health data, which are being sequentially opened, were selected. In particular, using public institution medical data (from the National Health Insurance Service, Health Insurance Review & Assessment Service, and Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency) through the recently launched “My Health Management App,” services such as cancer risk prediction based on genomic and clinical information and lifelog data, as well as a chronic kidney disease intensive management service involving 10 medical institutions including Inje University Hospital, will be developed.

In the public sector, in connection with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s “Public MyData Service,” which collects personal information scattered across various administrative and public institutions and provides it as datasets, a “Public MyData Set” necessary for moving and address changes will be developed. This will provide online services for issuing fixed-date certificates and moving-in notifications. As a result, the inconvenience of visiting multiple public institutions to obtain and submit various administrative documents will be eliminated. Additionally, by linking with Shinhan Bank and others, jeonse loan services will also be offered non-face-to-face, improving convenience in moving administration and loan screening for citizens.

Furthermore, plans include creating services that enhance convenience in daily life, such as a military-exclusive identity verification and payment service through integrated management of military service information and unit access information from the Army Headquarters, a medical record sharing service among 20 medium and large hospitals, and an integrated management service for income and driving history of designated drivers.

The Ministry of Science and ICT plans to not only conduct demonstration projects but also promote commercialization consulting and foster a MyData culture to contribute to improving citizens’ quality of life by realizing citizens’ right to self-determination over their information, facilitating free data movement, and encouraging the creation of diverse innovative MyData services.
