'Holiday Effect' New Vaccinations 2,958
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] The number of new COVID-19 cases in South Korea has dropped back to the 400s due to the weekend effect.
The Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) announced that as of midnight on the 7th, there were 485 new confirmed COVID-19 cases, bringing the total to 144,637. By infection route, 454 cases were locally transmitted and 31 were imported. On that day, the number of suspected case tests was 12,600, with 13,543 tests conducted at temporary screening centers in the metropolitan area and 2,286 tests at temporary screening centers outside the metropolitan area, totaling less than 30,000 tests. At the temporary screening centers, 63 cases in the metropolitan area and 2 cases outside the metropolitan area tested positive.
By region, Seoul reported 149 cases, Gyeonggi 146, and Incheon 15, with more than half of the cases coming from the metropolitan area. Outside the metropolitan area, cases were reported as follows: Gyeongnam 27, Daegu 26, Daejeon 20, Jeju 13, Ulsan and Chungbuk 10 each, Busan and Chungnam 9 each, Gyeongbuk 8, Gwangju 4, Jeonbuk and Jeonnam 3 each, Gangwon 2, with confirmed cases in all regions except Sejong.
The cumulative death toll from COVID-19 increased by one from the previous day to 1,974. The number of critically ill patients increased by two to 152. An additional 599 patients were declared recovered and released from isolation, bringing the total to 134,861.
Due to the holiday effect, the number of new vaccinations also fell below 3,000. The COVID-19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team reported that as of midnight on that day, 2,958 people received vaccinations. All were first-time vaccinations, bringing the total number of people who completed the first dose to 7,598,787. The number of new second-dose vaccinations remained the same as the previous day, with a cumulative total of 2,279,682. The vaccination rate relative to the population was 14.8% for the first dose and 4.4% for completed vaccinations.
Since June 6, the number of reported suspected adverse reactions following COVID-19 vaccination increased by 1,015 over two days, reaching a cumulative total of 34,447. Newly reported adverse reactions included one suspected case of anaphylaxis, 32 neurological adverse reactions, and two deaths.
