Daekyo Selected as '2021 World's Largest Bookstore' Neighborhood Bookstore

Seoul Chaekbang Yeonhui, Busan Narak Bookstore, Jeju Sosimhan Bookstore and 30 Other Locations Selected

[Asia Economy Reporter Junhyung Lee] Daekyo announced on the 7th that it has selected neighborhood bookstores to support this year through the "The Biggest Bookstore in the World (Segabang)" project in collaboration with the Daekyo Cultural Foundation. The Segabang project is Daekyo's social contribution activity that supports the sustainable operation of neighborhood bookstores.

Earlier, Daekyo invited applications for neighborhood bookstore partners from neighborhood bookstores nationwide that have been operating for more than three months as of last month. After the first screening and the second online interview, Daekyo selected a total of 30 final bookstores, including Seoul Chaekbang Yeonhui, Busan Narak Bookstore, and Jeju Sosimhan Chaekbang.

Daekyo helps the selected neighborhood bookstores to carry out reading culture programs, monthly curation, and online and offline promotions. At the end of the year, excellent bookstore projects will be selected for follow-up support. In addition, Daekyo plans to support the promotion and sale of bookstore content at the "Segabang Pop-up Store" held in major cities nationwide such as Seoul and Busan.

A Daekyo official said, "Through the Segabang project, which has been carried out since 2019, we have been helping the virtuous cycle of the ecosystem of neighborhood bookstores nationwide and gaining continuous interest and response," adding, "Starting next month, we will operate the 'Segabang Store' in Jeju for one year and strive to activate reading culture content."
