[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Sumi] Recently, safety concerns over Tesla vehicles have intensified as incidents of people being trapped inside Tesla cars after power outages have occurred in China.

According to local media on the 5th (local time), on the 30th of last month, Mr. Won's Tesla Model 3 at an outdoor charging station in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, suddenly lost power while charging, trapping him inside the vehicle.

At the time of the accident, Mr. Won pulled the emergency escape lever, but the door did not open from inside the car. He tried to break the window but lost consciousness due to the high temperatures, the media reported. Later, nearby citizens who found Mr. Won rescued him.

On the same day, Tesla China issued a statement saying, "The accident was determined to have occurred due to the reduced storage capacity of the 12V small battery installed inside the vehicle." Regarding the fact that an employee appeared an hour after Mr. Won called the Tesla customer center, they said, "We apologize once again for not arriving promptly at the scene and failing to assist the customer."

Previously, in South Korea last December, a Tesla vehicle fire occurred in an underground apartment parking lot, and the driver died after firefighters were unable to open the door from the outside.

Safety concerns over Tesla vehicles have led to a decline in sales. According to The Information, Tesla's orders in China were about 18,000 units in April but dropped to approximately 9,800 units in May, halving the volume. Additionally, Tesla's global electric vehicle market share has recently fallen to about one-third, according to preliminary estimates. This is interpreted as a warning message from customers increasingly dissatisfied with safety issues.
