[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Sumi] A man in his 40s driving a Mercedes-Benz passenger car without a license while intoxicated late at night hit a pedestrian, prompting the police to launch an investigation.
According to the Gunsan Police Station in Jeonbuk on the 6th, at around 2:09 a.m. that day, a Mercedes-Benz passenger car driven by A (46) struck B (21), who was walking on a road in Susong-dong, Gunsan. B, who suffered severe injuries to his arm and ankle, is reportedly receiving treatment at a hospital.
At the time of the accident, A's blood alcohol concentration was 0.09%, which is at the level for license cancellation. It was also revealed that A was driving without a license.
The police are considering whether to apply the "Yoon Chang-ho Act" to A. The Yoon Chang-ho Act refers to the amendments to the "Act on the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Crimes" and the "Road Traffic Act," which increase penalties for drivers causing casualties due to drunk driving and strengthen the standards for suspension and cancellation of drunk driving licenses.
The police stated, "We plan to summon the suspect to investigate the details of the accident, but since the investigation has not yet been conducted, we cannot say what charges will be applied."
