[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Ju Cheol-in] A man in his 50s who received a leftover AstraZeneca (AZ) vaccine in Busan suddenly passed away, prompting the Busan city government to investigate the causal relationship between the vaccination and the death.
According to Busan city on the 5th, Mr. A (51), who died on the afternoon of the 4th, received the AZ leftover vaccine at a clinic in Busanjin-gu, Busan, on the 27th of last month.
Afterwards, Mr. A, who had been living his daily life without any particular abnormal symptoms, reportedly experienced difficulty breathing and cardiac arrest while doing light exercise at home on the 30th of last month.
Mr. A was transferred to the hospital intensive care unit for treatment but passed away on the 4th, the ninth day after receiving the vaccine.
A Busan city official stated, “The person obligated to report adverse vaccine symptoms is the doctor. Currently, there have been no reports received from medical institutions,” adding, “The cause of death is clearly subarachnoid hemorrhage, and since there are no recognized cases of causality with the vaccine, it seems no report was made.”
He continued, “The bereaved family is claiming a connection between the cause of death and the vaccination,” and explained, “We will re-verify with medical institutions and examine whether there is any relationship between the vaccination and the death.”
