20s Given Probation for Wielding Weapon at Boyfriend After Seeing 'Jeon Yeochin Photo'

[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] A woman who stabbed her boyfriend with a weapon after arguing over photos of his ex-girlfriend stored on his computer was sentenced to a suspended prison term. The woman also threatened to kill him after he broke up with her.

On the 5th, Judge Kim Ji-young of the Seoul Southern District Court Criminal Division 14 sentenced Hong Mo (29), who was charged with special assault and other offenses, to two years in prison with a four-year suspension and ordered 200 hours of community service.

The court stated, "The defendant used a dangerous object, a kitchen knife, to stab the victim causing serious injuries," and added, "Even after causing injury, the defendant showed no remorse and sent text messages that caused anxiety, indicating a poor nature of the crime."

It continued, "The defendant admitted her wrongdoing during the trial and is reflecting on her actions," and explained the sentencing by noting, "An agreement was reached with the victim, and considering that the defendant is a first-time offender with no prior criminal record."

Hong was brought to trial on charges of assault after visiting her boyfriend A’s home in Gimpo, Gyeonggi Province, around 4 a.m. last June, where they argued and she repeatedly hit A’s face with her hands before grabbing a kitchen knife from the kitchen and stabbing A in the abdomen.

A, who was stabbed, pushed Hong down, but she lunged at him again, biting his arm and thigh, causing injuries requiring more than three weeks of medical treatment.

Investigations revealed that Hong committed the crime after seeing photos of A’s ex-girlfriends stored on his computer.

After the incident, when A told Hong he wanted to break up, she escalated to verbal abuse and threats.

Hong sent multiple text messages to A containing insults and threats such as, "I can come anytime, so don’t provoke me," and "Say one more word and I will come and kill you."

When A informed others about the abuse, Hong shamelessly denied it, saying, "There is no evidence or witnesses," and also insulted him by calling him a "mama’s boy."
