[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Juhyung] A new local landmark will be born in 'Alphadom City,' which will be completed by the end of this year around Pangyo Station, the transportation hub of Pangyo New Town. The 'Culture Valley,' the first of its kind in Korea and rare even worldwide, will be introduced as an aerial double-deck pedestrian walkway connecting buildings.

Alphadom City, a future-oriented complex consisting of office facilities, apartments, officetels, hotels, and department stores, is nearing the final stage of construction with a total floor area of approximately 1.3 million square meters. In terms of floor area alone, Alphadom City is three times larger than the 450,000 square meters of the Second Lotte World in Jamsil, Seoul. A new cultural space will be established in the Culture Valley, an aerial pedestrian walkway connecting four central buildings here, which is expected to emerge as a landmark.

The Culture Valley, built at a height equivalent to the third floor above ground, will serve as a communication path allowing tenants and visitors to move more conveniently and freely. Alphadom City Asset Management Co., Ltd., the developer, is developing this area with the concept of a 'public cultural space' rather than just a simple pedestrian road. Since 2019, the company has formed a construction method review committee to seek the optimal construction method that balances economic feasibility, safety, and excellent aesthetics.

The review committee, including experts, designed the walkway to function both as a pedestrian path and a complex cultural space, with a unique design that differentiates it as a landmark in the Pangyo Station area. As a result, a double-layered connection walkway was created, consisting of an indoor connection on the third floor and an outdoor connection on the fourth floor. The third-floor walkway will be a space for exhibiting and communicating various cultural contents, while the fourth floor, named the 'Greenway,' will be decorated as a green and resting area. This will provide a large space where citizens visiting Alphadom City can freely stroll in refreshing nature.

Additionally, passersby around Alphadom City will be able to enjoy various artworks displayed on large-scale video screens through media signage installed outside the Culture Valley. Both the interior and exterior of the Culture Valley will function as cultural facilities.

Successfully installing the Culture Valley, which adds value to the pedestrian walkway and transforms it into a cultural passage, is expected to contribute to the healthy growth and stability of Pangyo New Town and help Alphadom City become the core central area of Pangyo New Town. Kim Sangyeop, CEO of Alphadom City Asset Management, said, "If many people visit and enjoy staying at Alphadom City thanks to the Culture Valley, where enjoyable experiences become part of daily life, the so-called 'quiet evening hours' and the hollowing-out phenomenon of the Pangyo area on holidays will naturally disappear. At the same time, as the area around Pangyo Station is revitalized, it will have the effect of upgrading the overall prestige of Pangyo."
