Chasing Only Women Leads to Arrest After Victim Reports
[Asia Economy Reporters Byungdon Yoo, Jeongyun Lee] A man in his 30s who assaulted a citizen trying to stop him from sexually harassing a woman on the street while intoxicated was arrested by the police.
The Geumcheon Police Station in Seoul announced on the 4th that they have booked a man in his 30s, identified as Mr. A, on charges of assault.
According to the police, Mr. A is accused of following a woman in her 30s, Ms. B, near Gasan Digital Complex Station in Geumcheon-gu around 7:30 p.m. on the 2nd, and assaulting a citizen, Mr. C, who intervened to stop him.
Mr. A, shirtless, was reportedly touching another woman’s shoulder and when Ms. B saw him jaywalking, she reported him to the police. In response, Mr. A threatened and chased her.
As Mr. A’s misconduct continued, Mr. C, who was watching the situation, asked Ms. B, “Do you know him?” Suddenly, Mr. A struck Mr. C’s face with his hand.
Mr. C received treatment at a nearby hospital for the assault, and Ms. B reportedly suffered psychological damage severe enough to make daily life impossible.
After receiving Ms. B’s report, the police maintained communication to accurately determine the location and arrived at the scene within three minutes, arresting Mr. A in the act.
At the time of arrest, Mr. A was too intoxicated to be questioned and was not wearing a mask.
A police official stated, “He was so drunk that he could not remember anything, so we handed him over to a guardian first, and we plan to investigate the detailed circumstances of the incident later.”
