Gangneung City Distributes Superior Hanwoo 'Breeding Cows' to Farms

Ten Excellent Breeding Cows Introduced to Five Farms

[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Gangneung City is conducting a 'Hanwoo Breeding Cow Distribution' to improve the quality of Hanwoo cattle in Gangneung.

The city announced on the 4th that "as part of the 'Hanwoo Production Base Project Business Agreement,' excellent cows will be distributed to livestock farms at the Gangneung Livestock Auction Market (106 Songdu-gil, Seongsan-myeon) in the afternoon."

The Hanwoo breeding cows are selected by the Gangwon-do Livestock Technology Research Institute, and a Gangneung cow core group (a group of cows with excellent genetic ability selected by scientific methods) is being established.

In this distribution to farms, out of a total plan to distribute 30 heads, 10 heads will be introduced in the first phase, with five successor livestock farmers each receiving two heads.

The 'Hanwoo Production Base Project Business Agreement' was signed in March with the Gangwon-do Livestock Technology Research Institute, Gangneung Livestock Cooperative, and the National Hanwoo Association Gangneung Branch. The city aims to assist in improving livestock in Gangneung by distributing excellent cows raised at the Gangwon-do Livestock Technology Research Institute to livestock farms.

Hong Nam-gi, Deputy Mayor of Gangneung City, said, "Although there are difficulties in fostering the livestock industry due to the aging of livestock farmers and strengthened regulations, we will cooperate with the agreement institutions and organizations to expand support for nurturing professional successor livestock farmers and Hanwoo improvement projects and to establish a production base for Gangneung's premium Hanwoo."
