Apple Followed by Google Also Limits Personal Data Tracking

[Asia Economy Reporter Yujin Cho] Following Apple, Google is introducing a privacy feature that makes it difficult to track user data on Android-based mobile software.

On the 3rd (local time), Bloomberg reported that Google plans to introduce a feature that prohibits tracking users' app activity records on smartphone apps.

The report stated that Google has been exploring ways for Android users to preemptively control ad tracking in a less strict manner than Apple over the past few months.

This move aims to increase data transparency by allowing users to check how their data is processed within apps and granting them the right to choose.

Earlier, Google announced on the Android developer blog that it plans to introduce a new Safety Section in its app marketplace, Google Play, next year.

According to this, app developers must specifically disclose the types of personal information their apps collect in the Google Play Safety Section and explain how this data is collected and used by the app.

This is similar to Apple's recently implemented App Tracking Transparency feature, which requires apps to obtain user permission before tracking their information.

Mobile advertising platform operators like Facebook have opposed this move, arguing that it will shrink the targeted advertising market and harm millions of small and medium-sized businesses, raising concerns about unfairness.
