[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Park Hyung-jun, Mayor of Busan, is conducting a ‘Campus Tour’.
He is entering a ‘Campus Meeting’ to visit universities and discuss communication and solutions to overcome the crisis of local universities.
The Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Hyung-jun) announced on the 4th that it will hold the first ‘Open Campus Meeting’ at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology.
The Open Campus Meeting was planned to strengthen the collaboration between government, industry, and academia, which Mayor Park emphasized even before taking office, and to solve the crisis of local universities.
Mayor Park will visit university campuses in person to meet with young university students, university officials, and company representatives to listen to various opinions and seek solutions.
Mayor Park Hyung-jun will visit Dong-Eui Institute of Technology as the first participant in the Open Campus Meeting.
Mayor Park explained the reason for selecting this university for the first meeting, saying, “I heard that Dong-Eui Institute of Technology is establishing an AI Cafe to provide students with a space for level-based education on artificial intelligence.”
He said, “I hope that active responses to the 4th Industrial Revolution from local vocational colleges will help overcome the currently stagnant local economy and the crisis of local universities.”
At the first Open Campus Meeting, seven representatives each from Busan City, universities, students, and companies will sit facing each other in a triangular formation and freely discuss various issues related to industry-academia cooperation, such as difficulties faced by students and industry-academia cooperation companies, and solutions to job mismatches.
A Busan City official explained, “Sitting and discussing in a triangle, the strongest and most stable polygon, is to emphasize the importance of solid unity and cooperation among government, industry, and academia.”
He added, “Through cooperation encompassing universities, companies, and local governments, we will cultivate talent tailored to local companies, create a virtuous cycle where young people get jobs at local companies and continue to reside in Busan, and continuously communicate with universities and listen to voices from the field so that Busan can become a city where young people want to live.”
The Open Campus Meeting can be viewed through Busan City’s internet broadcasting channel, Bada TV, and on June 18, visits to about ten universities including Korea Maritime and Ocean University are scheduled by the end of this year.
