"Your Mom and You Are the Same Level" - 40s Teacher Who Abused Elementary Student Sentenced to 6 Months in Prison and Taken into Custody

[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] A teacher in his 40s in Daegu, who habitually verbally abused and mistreated his elementary school students, was sentenced to prison and taken into custody in court.

The Daegu District Court Criminal Division 1 (Presiding Judge Lee Ho-cheol) announced on the 3rd that it sentenced A (44), a teacher at an elementary school in Daegu, to six months in prison and took him into custody for violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Child Abuse Crimes. The court also ordered A to complete a 40-hour child abuse treatment program and imposed a five-year employment restriction at child-related institutions.

The court explained the sentencing reason, stating, "Considering that the defendant does not show remorse, the victims have suffered serious harm requiring long-term psychiatric treatment, and the victims and their parents petitioned for appropriate punishment against the unrepentant defendant."

A was prosecuted for emotionally abusing B (then 11 years old), a student in his class, by throwing B's water bottle on the floor and hitting him on the head with a remote control in July 2019.

Additionally, investigations revealed that he abused several students 15 times from March to July of the same year. In particular, in July, he forced a student to lie face down throughout the class, saying, "You don't need to attend the lesson."

Furthermore, A reportedly hurled abusive language at students, saying things like, "I can't even stand to look at you," "Your mother and you are equally stupid," and "Did you receive such poor home education? You really have no manners."
