Resolving QR Code Usage Difficulties for Elderly Vulnerable to Smartphones

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam announced on the 3rd that it will introduce the ‘Safe Call Entry Management System (hereinafter Safe Call),’ which manages user entry records with a single phone call, to about 2,500 businesses in the area as a preemptive response to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).

Safe Call is a system that assigns a unique phone number to each business, and when a visitor makes a call, an audio guide confirming registration completion is provided, and the entry record is automatically registered to the corresponding business.

Safe Call was introduced to resolve the inconvenience of QR code use for the elderly who are vulnerable to smartphones, and to address concerns about personal information leakage and issues of false or incomplete entries associated with handwritten logs.

The collected information is used only for epidemiological investigation purposes to prevent the spread of infectious diseases and is automatically deleted after a certain period.

Gu In-mo, the mayor of Geochang-gun, stated, “The introduction of Safe Call is a project to facilitate quick tracking of movements in case of confirmed COVID-19 cases and to promote convenience for business owners and users, so we hope the residents will use it conveniently.”

The county is installing the Safe Call Entry Management System in multi-use facilities such as restaurants, cafes, bathhouses, beauty salons, and religious facilities that wish to install it, and plans to complete the installation within 10 days.
