[Asia Economy Reporter Kangwook Cho] Kim Jongsu, Executive Director of Lotte Construction, received the Bronze Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit for his contributions to the advancement of construction technology.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 3rd that on the occasion of the '19th Construction New Technology Day,' it awarded commendations to 24 individuals, including Executive Director Kim, new technology developers, local governments, and government-affiliated organizations.

A total of 909 new construction technologies developed from 1989 to 2020 have been applied more than 55,000 times across various construction sites. This has resulted in reduced construction costs and periods while improving quality.

Since 1996, Executive Director Kim has worked for 25 years as a structural PhD and structural engineer in road traffic design, project management, and construction. He introduced and applied 31 new technologies and methods, including Construction New Technology No. 685 and No. 751, across 10 sites, including two private investment projects and eight technology-based bidding projects, with a utilization amount of approximately 100 billion KRW. As a result, it is explained that 20 billion KRW in budget was saved and the construction period was shortened.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport is promoting institutional improvements to encourage the development and utilization of new technologies. This year, it plans to reduce certification fees by 42% (from 3.5 million KRW to 2 million KRW) to lessen cost burdens and prepare support measures such as awarding smart construction points during extended reviews.

Yoon Sungwon, First Vice Minister of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, said, “Most new construction technologies developed by small and medium-sized enterprises have been widely utilized in both public and private sectors, significantly contributing to the technological advancement and competitiveness of the construction industry.”
