Utilizing Local Idle Spaces as Learning Venues, Offering Customized Lifelong Learning Programs for Residents... 10 Neighborhood Learning Centers Designated by District, Operating 55 Courses from Humanities Lectures to Western Painting, European Embroidery, Calligraphy, and Minhwa Painting
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Jongno-gu (District Mayor Kim Young-jong) will operate the '2021 Neighborhood Learning Center Within One Step' project from June to November to provide residents with diverse and extensive lifelong learning opportunities and is accepting participation applications.
The Neighborhood Learning Center project is conducted to guarantee residents' nearby learning rights by utilizing idle spaces within the region, contributing to the expansion of lifelong learning through customized program operation and support for learning community activities.
This year, 10 neighborhood learning centers have been designated by district: ▲ Pyeongchang-dong Neighborhood Learning Center (Hwajeong Museum) ▲ Buam-dong Neighborhood Learning Center (Hongji Seowon) ▲ Cheongunhyoja-dong Neighborhood Learning Center (me;人 (Miin) Psychological Counseling Cafe) ▲ Samcheong-dong Neighborhood Learning Center (Samcheong Park Forest Library) ▲ Sejongno Neighborhood Learning Center (National Folk Museum Association) ▲ Hyehwa-dong Neighborhood Learning Center (Irujae) ▲ Ihwa-dong Neighborhood Learning Center (Geokkuro Campus) ▲ Changsin 2-dong Neighborhood Learning Center (Haesong Regional Children's Center) ▲ Changsin 3-dong Neighborhood Learning Center (Changsin Communication Workshop) ▲ Sungin 1-dong Neighborhood Learning Center (Susuhun).
A total of 55 customized courses for residents in various fields will be offered, ranging from humanities lectures to Western painting, European embroidery, calligraphy, quilting, folk painting, crafts, Hanyangdoseong (Seoul City Wall) tours, violin and clarinet lessons, and foreign language conversation.
Tuition is completely free, but learners must bear the cost of materials.
Applications for participation can be made through the Jongno-gu Lifelong Learning Center website, and for more detailed information including course schedules, please refer to the Lifelong Learning Center website or contact the Education Division.
Courses may be changed to online non-face-to-face classes depending on the COVID-19 situation. When face-to-face classes are conducted, strict compliance with measures such as temperature checks and mask-wearing for students will be ensured.
District Mayor Kim Young-jong stated, “We aim to guarantee residents' nearby learning rights and support them to quench their thirst for learning through lifelong education. We will complete ‘Dreaming Education City Jongno’ where residents can live with pride by building a solid lifelong education infrastructure.”
