Additional National Funding Secured for Drainage Improvement Project in Haegye-myeon, Geumsan District
[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Oh Hwan-joo] Jeonnam Muan-gun (Governor Kim San) announced on the 3rd that it has secured an additional 2.87 billion KRW in full national funding for the central drainage channel maintenance, the residents' top priority project, as part of the drainage improvement project in Geumsan District, Haeje-myeon.
The Geumsan District drainage improvement project is aimed at improving agricultural land drainage facilities and farming infrastructure to enhance agricultural productivity, increase farm income, and promote safe farming, and it is fully funded by the national government.
This project involves installing disaster prevention facilities such as pumping stations, drainage channels, and drainage gates in frequently flooded farmland to prevent flood damage and establish a foundation for cultivating other crops.
So far, the county has invested 13.094 billion KRW in the Geumsan District drainage improvement project, aiming for completion by December next year. However, the residents' requests to install central and additional drainage channels had not been approved by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, causing difficulties in project implementation.
However, with persistent efforts, the secured national funding is expected to resolve the long-standing demands of farmers in Yonghak-ri and Cheonjang-ri areas of Haeje-myeon. The county plans to actively reflect residents' opinions and consult experts to maintain three pumping stations and construct and expand 5.54 km of drainage channels.
Governor Kim San said, “We will promptly apply the additionally secured project funds to support residents in conducting stable farming activities as soon as possible and do our best to increase farm income.”
