Yeongdeungpo-gu, Record-Breaking Fundraising Awarded for 'Hope Ondol Warm Winter Campaign' as Outstanding Autonomous District

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Chae Hyun-il) was selected as an excellent autonomous district in the evaluation of the ‘2021 Hope Ondol Warm Winter Campaign’ project jointly promoted with the Seoul Community Chest of Korea and received a commendation.

Yeongdeungpo-gu achieved a remarkable feat by raising approximately 1,947,230,000 KRW, including donations and goods, during the ‘2021 Hope Ondol Warm Winter Campaign’ fundraising project conducted over three months from November 16 last year to February 15 this year, earning the commendation as an excellent autonomous district.

Despite the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic making face-to-face fundraising and donation events difficult, the district promoted various activities to spread the culture of sharing, such as relay fundraising by neighborhood and fundraising campaigns using QR codes.

As a result of encouraging fundraising activities targeting local residents, professional organizations, and companies to spread the culture of sharing in the community and contribute to the welfare of residents, donations reached 883,370,000 KRW and goods worth 1,063,850,000 KRW, achieving an impressive increase of about 21% compared to the previous year.

Accordingly, on the morning of the 2nd, a commemorative ceremony was held at Yeongdeungpo-gu Office where District Mayor Chae Hyun-il received the excellent autonomous district commendation plaque from Kim Jin-gon, Secretary General of the Seoul Community Chest of Korea.

District Mayor Chae Hyun-il said, “All these achievements are thanks to the residents who took the lead in sharing for neighbors and the community, and all donors who conveyed love for neighbors in unseen places,” adding, “We will continue to respect and honor donors and strive to widely spread positive influence.”

The collected donations will be delivered to low-income families and social welfare facilities in the region and will be used for livelihood stabilization of vulnerable groups, medical and housing expenses, public-private cooperative welfare projects, and support funds for welfare facilities.

Additionally, at 11 a.m. on the same day, a gratitude plaque presentation ceremony for outstanding donors was held in the annex auditorium of Yeongdeungpo-gu Office.

The district selected a total of 45 outstanding donors who conveyed the warm energy of Ondol for neighbors and presented plaques of appreciation to express gratitude for their dedication and support.

The outstanding donors were selected among those who have continuously engaged in social contribution activities to support vulnerable groups and those who donated high-value donations or goods worth more than 10 million KRW.

At the plaque presentation ceremony, one mayor’s commendation, 34 district mayor’s plaques of appreciation, and commendations from the Community Chest were presented to 10 people.

District Mayor Chae Hyun-il said, “I sincerely thank all donors who ignited the flame of a warm winter with passionate hearts despite the cold season caused by COVID-19,” and added, “We will continue to diligently carry out welfare policies so that the warmth of the community can always be sustained.”
