Starting with awarding certificates of commendation to 20 exemplary National Veterans Awardees who contributed to local community development and promotion of veterans culture on the 4th, a month-long campaign in June to encourage residents to honor the meritorious individuals
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Seon-gap) is promoting various consolation projects for national veterans in the area in celebration of June, the Month of National Defense and Veterans.
First, on the 4th, the district will begin by awarding certificates of commendation to 20 exemplary national veterans who have contributed to community development and the promotion of veterans' culture. Throughout June, the district plans to promote respect for these honorees among residents.
Additionally, approximately 3,000 veterans in the area will receive consolation funds of 40,000 KRW per person for the Month of National Defense and Veterans. For 180 low-income veterans, a set of quarantine supplies including hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes, and KF masks will also be provided.
Along with this, starting in June, the district will launch a funeral service support project for national veterans.
The beneficiaries are national veterans who were registered residents of the district and passed away, along with one primary surviving family member. For funerals held in the metropolitan area, funeral directors will be dispatched, and the district will provide funeral banners, portrait baskets, and about 30 types of funeral convenience items for the bereaved families.
Furthermore, to help beneficiaries make good use of support policies, the district produced the "Gwangjin-gu Veterans Policy Guide Leaflet," which includes information on eligibility and application methods for various veterans support projects including the funeral service support. This leaflet has been distributed to veterans, veterans' halls, and community service centers.
Community service centers will also prepare their own consolation projects in cooperation with local community security councils to mark the Month of National Defense and Veterans.
For example, in Guui 3-dong, 14 veterans will receive thank-you letters written by children and carnation cakes, while in Neung-dong, 24 veterans will be given "Love Roll Cakes."
Additionally, in Jayang 2-dong, about 10 veterans will be supported with packages containing daily necessities.
Kim Seon-gap, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, "June is a month to express gratitude to national veterans who sacrificed and contributed for the country. We will do our best to create a society where veterans are respected and to enhance their welfare and honor."
